The hidden danger in plastic slippers. It has been revealed that plastic slippers, which are sold as antibacterial, especially for children, contain carcinogenic substances.
At the initiative of the West German Radio and Television Corporation (WDR), a study on plastic slippers revealed that the slippers contain carcinogenic substances. According to Deutsche Welle's report, plastic slippers, which are indispensable for summer months, have some risks in terms of health. In the study, ten plastic slippers selected from different price ranges were sent to the laboratory for analysis. In laboratory analyzes, it was determined that the slippers contain a high percentage of chemicals that can be taken into the body through the skin. The most dangerous chemical detected in slippers is a substance called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH). PAH is known as a carcinogen. Experts from the German Federal Environment Agency have long demanded that the use of this substance be restricted.
According to the laboratory results, PAH was detected in six of the ten slippers tested above the said limit value. Seven slippers tested were found to contain heavy metals. Although these metals are not taken by the skin, if thrown away, they pollute the environment due to the chromium, lead and cadmium they contain. Experts recommend wearing plastic slippers with socks.
