Uğur Ateş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mediterranean Chemicals and Products Exporters' Association (AKMİB), stated that the chemical industry ranked first with exports of 1 billion 447 million dollars in August, surpassing the exports of the automotive and ready-made clothing and apparel industries.

“Plastic and its products took the second place with 27 percent, and rubber goods took the third place with 6,3 percent. Egypt took the first place in the list of chemical exports in August. Chemical exports to Egypt increased by 31,6 percent compared to August last year and reached 232 million dollars. Egypt was followed by Malta with an export of 96 million dollars and Iraq with an export of 83 million dollars. The Netherlands is the country with the highest increase in exports compared to August 2012, while the 60 percent decrease in Italian exports is remarkable.
Stating that Egypt, Malta and the Netherlands are in the top three places in AKMİB's exports in August, Ateş said that an increase record was broken in the chemical sector exports to the Netherlands compared to the same month of the previous year, and that the highest increase in the product groups to which the most exports were made in August was the same. reported that they have plastic and products with 3 percent.
Emphasizing that despite the hesitation about the commercial relations with Egypt in the past months, Ateş emphasized that Turkey's chemical industry and AKMİB still have the largest market share in Egypt, and said, "Besides, positive developments in EU countries have parallel effects on the chemical industry, like every other industry. It is hoped that the sector will maintain its leadership in the coming months and have a rising graph.”
