Kiwi Research from Ataturk University Chemistry Department

In a scientific study conducted at Atatürk University, it was determined that kiwi is good for many diseases, especially cancer, cholesterol, blood pressure, constipation, influenza infection.

Faculty of Science, Department of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Reminding that the homeland of kiwi is Southern China, İlhami Gülçin said that the fruit is not tropical, but rather abundantly produced in China and India.

Expressing that the kiwi entered Turkey after 1988, Gülçin said that adaptation studies were carried out by the Yalova Atatürk Horticultural Center Research Institute and as a result of these studies, kiwi adapted very easily in the Marmara, Aegean and Black Sea regions of Turkey.

Gülçin, who is also a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences, emphasized that kiwis were sold at astronomical prices during the first production period, but nowadays they are reduced to the price of normal fruits. Emphasizing that the decrease in prices is very important for accelerating consumption, Gülçin said, “Kiwi has started to be used in different industries in Turkey. It is also used in fruit juices, cosmetics, soap and shampoo production. In addition to these, its commercial value is increasing gradually, and consumers are gradually grasping the importance of kiwi.

Explaining that they are conducting a scientific study to determine the chemical properties, food value and antioxidant properties of kiwi in Turkey, Gülçin said:

“Our work has made a lot of noise. It was published in the journal Food Research International and was widely cited. When we look at the findings we obtained in this study, it was observed that kiwi is especially rich in vitamin C. In fact, vitamin C is not the only substance that gives a sour taste in fruits, but different components such as citric acid give it a sour taste. The sour taste in kiwi is mostly due to vitamin C. We have determined that vitamin C is very serious in kiwi. In addition, we observed that kiwi has very important properties such as antioxidant, radical removal and reducing capacity.

KIWI NUTRITIONS TO THE SKIN

Explaining that they are working in parallel with the Marmara Research Center to illuminate the content of kiwi, Gülçin stated that they observed that it has rich phenolic and flavonoid properties.

Reminding that kiwi is frequently used in Central Asian countries, especially in China, in local medicine, Gülçin emphasized that kiwi is mostly used for cancer patients and stated that it has an important place in the treatment of many types of cancer. prof. Dr. Gulcin continued:

“Kiwi is high in fiber. The higher the fiber content, the higher the water holding capacity. Accordingly, it is also an important feature that it works the intestines and prevents constipation. We observed that kiwi has blood pressure lowering and cholesterol lowering effects. We observed that when women put sliced kiwis on the skin, it nourishes the skin very comfortably. In addition, we determined that some minerals, which have an important place in terms of health, are abundant in kiwi. We found that many minerals such as calcium and iron, especially sodium and magnesium, were higher than normal fruit standards. Vitamins C, E and A are plentiful.”

"CHILDREN SHOULD BE INSTALLED WITH THE BENEFITS OF KIWI"

Gülçin, who recommends the frequent use of kiwi, which is rich in vitamin C, especially in flu, cold and cold, pointed out that kiwi does not have any side effects and listed the benefits of the fruit as follows:

“Kiwi has so many benefits. But the most obvious benefits of kiwi are a very useful fruit in terms of delaying cancer types and reducing the risk of getting it. It has a protective effect against cancer with its antioxidant properties. The fiber content of kiwi prevents constipation. It has blood pressure and cholesterol lowering effects. It is beneficial for flu, cold and even asthma. The feature can be used abundantly today, where flu infections are common.”

prof. Dr. Gülçin noted that families and people in educational institutions in Turkey, especially students and children, should instill the health benefits of kiwi consumption.
