Today in the History of Chemistry..

British chemist Christopher K. Ingold was born on this day in 1893. His groundbreaking work in the 1920s and 1930s on reaction mechanisms and the incorporation of concepts such as the electronic structure of organic compounds into chemistry, the stereoisomer concept further defined the effects of nucleophile, electrophile, inductive and resonance effects on SN 1 , SN 2 , E1 and E2 reactions.
