Interesting claim from the Rector of Anadolu University “50 percent of the faculties will be closed”

Anadolu University (AU) Rector Prof. Dr. Davut Aydın stated that open education is a world trend and suggested that in the next 20 years, approximately 50 percent of the faculties providing education in Turkey and in the world will be closed.

prof. Dr. Aydın stated that he made this statement because they could not compete with Anadolu University Open Education Faculty (OF) and said, “Students are very conscious. Even today, there are various programs and closed departments in universities. This trend will accelerate. Since technologies are used and costs are low, interest in open education will increase gradually. Therefore, open education is a world trend. In the coming periods, the demand for open education will increase even more and will develop further. I believe that we need to develop this more effectively as a second university, certificate, undergraduate, graduate and doctorate within the vision of lifelong education. The world is increasingly turning to open and distance education in education. I would like to underline that," he said.

“AÖF WILL NEVER BE CONNECTED TO YÖK”

“Is it possible for Open Education to be separated from Anadolu University and connected to the Higher Education Institution (YÖK) in the future?” To the question, Aydın said, “No, such a thing is definitely out of question. It is an organization, an accumulation. We have tremendous infrastructure and experience. Our technological infrastructure, our human power infrastructure, together with everything, cannot and will never be able to realize such a thing.
