MEF University will start education in the 2014-2015 academic year with a different education system. The student will be able to complete his undergraduate education in 3 years. In the 4th year, if he meets the entry requirements, he will be able to do a master's degree without thesis, that is, he will be able to get both a bachelor's degree and a non-thesis master's diploma in 4 years. On the other hand, with the model called 'Flipped Classroom', students will watch the lesson videos uploaded to the system before coming to the lesson and improve their knowledge through group work in the lesson. Thus, they will focus on higher level cognitive activities such as application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation with the support of their peers and academicians.
Founded by the İbrahim Arıkan Education and Scientific Research Support Foundation, MEF University will begin accepting its first students in the 2014-2015 academic year. The rector of the university is Muhammed Şahin, who was previously the rector of Istanbul Technical University. The university held a press conference on its campus, which is under construction in Maslak, to promote its education model. Rector of the University, Muhammed Şahin, stated that they will change the 900-year-old tradition of education in higher education in a way that will respond to the perceptions of Y and Z generation young people and said, “We are bringing an active, interactive and creative system that will be a first not only in Turkey but also in the world. With a system suitable for the requirements of the digital age, we have designed a system where students learn how, where and when they want to learn. Seeing the interest of academics from all over the world who want to teach with this system showed that we are on the right track.”
Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences for the first time
In the university, education (primary mathematics teaching, special education teaching, psychological counseling and guidance), economics, administrative and social sciences (economics, business administration, psychology), law (law), art, design and architecture (architecture), engineering (computer, In addition to faculties (electrical and electronics, industry, construction, mechanical engineering), the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences will be opened for the first time in Turkey. The language of instruction will be 100 percent English in all departments, except for the faculty of law.
Both undergraduate and graduate degrees in 4 years
MEF University will offer a 3+2 education model to students who want it. When students complete the 3rd year and provide the qualifications, they will study their 4th and 5th years at a contracted university abroad if they wish. With this program, students will be able to get a bachelor's degree from MEF University and a master's degree from a partner university abroad. A master's degree can be in its own field, or it can be in different branches such as Business Administration, Economics/Finance. In addition, MEF University will provide flexibility in course selection and course load to students who want to complete their 4-year undergraduate education with 240 ECTS credits in 3 years, and will offer rich course options in summer school. The student will be able to complete his undergraduate education in 3 years. In the 4th year, if he meets the entry requirements, he will be able to do a Master's degree without thesis, that is, he will be able to get both a bachelor's degree and a non-thesis master's diploma in 4 years.
On the other hand, the university will provide education with a system called 'Flipped Classroom'. According to this, students will watch the lesson videos uploaded to the system before coming to the lesson, take notes, write down their questions and share them with the academician electronically before the lesson. The academician, on the other hand, will divide the students into groups according to these grades and enable them to work. Instructor groups will improve their knowledge through group work in class. In this way, students will perform lower-level cognitive activities such as acquiring and understanding knowledge before the lesson. In the course, they will focus on higher level cognitive activities such as application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation with the support of their peers and academicians.
