The company was fined 5.7 million liras for the toxic waste that a lead factory in İzmir Gaziemir had buried on its land for years. Mehmet Emin Birpınar, Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, said that the penalty is the highest environmental penalty in Turkey.
The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization imposed a fine of 5.7 million TL on Aslan Avcı Döküm Sanayi lead factory in Gaziemir, which was determined to still cause environmental pollution due to radioactive materials buried in the ground despite being closed years ago in İzmir.
Regarding the environmental disaster that Radikal first announced on December 3, 2012, factory waste, including wastes containing radioactivity, was covered with soil, but this discarded soil also did not work and the reaction of toxic wastes started again months later. Evaluating the blackness of the soil thrown on the wastes, experts said that radioactive wastes continue to spread to the environment with both wind and precipitation.
