TK3-Teknik, operating in Ankara Bilkent Cyberpark Technology Zone, developed Turkey's first solar powered UAV under the presidency of TOBB Etü Faculty Member Prof Dr Ünver Kaynak. Produced at TOBB University with the support of TÜBİTAK 200 thousand TL, the UAV is 100 percent domestic.
'FIND THE TARGET ON GOOGLE EARTH'
prof. The source said, “Our country needs UAVs in areas such as reconnaissance, observation, communication and measurement. We started this project in order to provide solutions to these needs.
As a result of the project, we have successfully completed the pioneering flight tests by developing 30 UAVs made of advanced composite material with an electric motor and 2 percent of its energy from solar energy, capable of automatic flight control at short range. Our aircraft can easily reach the areas marked on Google Earth with autopilot.”
'NIGHT SIGHT IS AVAILABLE'
Stating that the development process on the UAV is still continuing, Kaynak said, “The maximum take-off weight is 18 kg. The existing system can stay in the air for 90 minutes with only battery support and 120 minutes with solar energy support.
For now, it can take daytime view. We developed this aircraft for testing purposes. The budget was limited. We can make aircraft with higher performance. The system, which will be developed by using the energy stored during the day through high-resolution cameras and long-range communication systems to be selected according to the needs, can take images at night and instant route tracking can be made from the ground control system.
