A group of researchers from the "University of the West of England" in the United Kingdom developed a micro-energy cell that converts organic materials into electrical energy. The organic matter mentioned here is urine.
The process of converting urine into electricity is done by a special group of bacteria. Bacteria in the energy cells produce electrons by using the chemicals in the urine in their own metabolism processes. These electrons are stored in the cell and used as energy.
The interesting thing is that, contrary to what we are used to in such developments, the energy produced is at a level that can charge smart phones, albeit a little. The energy produced by one "session" of urine can be enough for a normal phone call. This is a good enough start.
