The 11-month export of the chemical industry reached 16 billion dollars. The chemical industry became the third largest exporter after automotive, ready-made clothing and apparel with exports of 1 billion 574 million dollars in November.
According to the statement of Istanbul Chemicals and Products Exporters' Association (IKMIB), chemical exports in the January-November period increased to 15 billion 901 million dollars, and this figure is expected to reach 18 billion dollars at the end of the year.
The top three export destinations in November were Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. The decline in exports to Egypt, which has been the sector's number one market for a long time, continued in November as well. While exports to this country decreased by 36,44 percent last month, the loss throughout the year reached 15,80 percent. In the month we left behind; Germany, Russia, Oman, Greece, Iran, Spain and Italy were listed as the top 10 countries in chemical exports. The surprise country of November was Oman with its record increase in exports. Throughout the year; While Egypt, Iraq and Germany are the most exported countries; Iran, Russia, Malta, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Spain and Azerbaijan-Nakhchivan followed these countries.
Murat Akyüz, Chairman of the Board of İKMİB, whose views were included in the statement, stated that the industry managed to diversify the market despite all the negativities, and said:
“We are making significant breakthroughs especially in the Far East, South America and Africa. Recently, our chemical exports to this market have been severely damaged due to the internal turmoil in Egypt. Our hope is that by 2014, the problems in neighboring countries will be resolved as soon as possible. With the good management of the political process, we expect our trade to develop in a positive direction. Especially the next 1 month period is very critical for us.”
