Technology support from TUBITAK to universities. The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) will provide annual grant support of up to 10 million lira to 1 universities in order to strengthen technology transfer offices within universities and to encourage the establishment of new ones.

According to the information obtained by the AA correspondent, the 1513 Technology Transfer Offices Support Program was launched for the first time last year by the TÜBİTAK Technology and Innovation Support Programs Presidency (TEYDEB) in order to ensure university-industry cooperation and to make the new technologies developed based on knowledge available to the industry.

Within the scope of the program, TÜBİTAK, which started to support Boğaziçi, Ege, Gazi, Hacettepe, Koç, METU, Özyeğin, Sabancı, Selçuk and Yıldız Technical universities in 2013, has also determined the universities to be supported since 2014. 36 universities applied to TUBITAK for grant support. After the evaluation, the universities to be supported were determined as Anadolu, Bilkent, Dokuz Eylül, Erciyes, Gaziantep, İstanbul, İstanbul Şehir, İstanbul Teknik and Uludağ universities and İzmir Institute of Technology.

Duties of technology transfer offices
Technology transfer offices, which will provide coordination and communication between the university and the industry, will play an important role in the transformation and patenting of academic studies into products and services. These offices will also work as project offices so that universities can benefit from national and international public support effectively. It will also be active in preparing project applications, establishing and monitoring project partnerships. Technology transfer offices will also play critical roles in terms of university-industry collaborations, the emergence of entrepreneurial ideas of students and academics, and their ability to see the applications of the knowledge they have acquired in the academic field in the industry.

Within the scope of the program, within the framework of university-industry cooperation; “R&D projects creation, development and logistics support activities”, “registration and protection, marketing, commercialization of intellectual and industrial property rights”, “venture capital support, incubation center establishment, business guidance, consultancy and training services”, “ It is aimed to support the projects of technology transfer offices established or to be established in Turkey, on a non-refundable basis, on the subjects of “organizing events that will raise awareness, making publications”.

How will support be given?
Up to 1 million lira per year will be given by TÜBİTAK to the technology transfer offices to be supported. With the evaluations to be made every year, the support period can be extended up to 10 years. The support rate will be 5 percent for the first 80 years and 5 percent for the second 60 years. Applications to the program will be made in the form of a project during the call periods.

Universities, companies that are partners of universities, technopark management companies, companies that are partners of technopark management company can apply to the program.
