8th Chemical Industry Development Council started in Ankara. Representatives of the chemical industry, which is important for the Turkish economy and considered among the strategic sectors, met at the 8th KSP Chemical Industry Development Council organized by the Chemistry Sector Platform (KSP) in Ankara. The Chemistry Industry Platform, with its 37 members consisting of non-governmental organizations in different sub-sectors of chemistry such as BOSAD, İKMİB, Rubber Association, PAGDER, TKSD, Exporters' Unions, unions and chambers and universities, carries out studies to find solutions to the problems of the industry. At the Council, the formulas of the chemical industry, which has a foreign trade deficit that will reach $40 billion this year, were worked out with which strategies to close this gap.
At the 8th KSP Chemical Industry Development Council, the export-based industrialization strategy was reconsidered and it was decided that the chemical industry should lead this process.
Formulas for closing the foreign trade deficit of the chemical industry, which reached 40 billion dollars; It has been determined as increasing the quality of vocational education, strengthening university-industry-public cooperation, directing state supports to high value-added products and accelerating sectoral clustering.
The 8th Chemical Industry Development Council, organized by the Chemistry Industry Platform (KSP) this year, was held at Ankara Etap Altınel Hotel. It was observed that the representatives of Non-Governmental Organizations representing the sector, industrialists, academics and sector experts showed great interest in the Council. 8th KSP Chemical Industry Development Council; Şirzat Karayel, Vice Chairman of the Rubber Association, who is the term president of KSP, Timur Erk, Chairman of the Turkish Chemical Manufacturers Association (TKSD), Chairman of the Board of Directors of Istanbul Chemicals and Products Exporters' Association (İKMİB), Murat Akyüz, Chairman of the Board of OSTİM Orhan Aydın, Gürsel Baran, who was newly elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO), and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey Prof. Dr. It started with the opening speeches of Ersan Aslan.
KSP's term presidency Rubber AssociationŞirzat Karayel, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, said, “As of the end of 2015, chemistry, which has become Turkey's largest exporting sector, increases its share in Turkey's exports every year. Rubber, with its export price of 4,5 dollars per kilogram and being the third largest exporting sector on the basis of sub-sectors, has an important position in chemical exports. Despite being 99 percent dependent on imports for raw materials, the rubber industry, which ranks second in production after Germany, is also at an important point in Europe. Our rubber industry, which provides input to different sectors from aircraft industry to shoes, from machinery to furniture, has made great progress in the last 30 years.”
Turkish Chemical Manufacturers Association In his speech at the opening of the Council, Timur Erk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TKSD, drew attention to the necessity of a developed chemical industry for a developed country and said, “It is time to create unity and synergy. Efforts need to be increased in order to improve the investment environment in the chemical industry, which provides intermediate goods and raw materials to more than 30 real sectors. Our industry needs foreign capital. Confidence in foreign investment should increase and we should look to 2017 with more hope. Chemical Industry We must solve the problem of settlement and clustering. There is still no Chemical Specialized Organized Industrial Zone in our country. Strategic and large-scale investment sites with ports are required. We need to increase the added value, which is 1,5 dollars per kilogram, to the levels of 2,5 – 3 dollars,” he said.
which came together in 2004 to provide sectoral power union, Chemical Industry PlatformMurat Akyüz, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Chemicals and Products Exporters' Association (IKMIB), one of the founders of . We anticipate that our chemical industry will close 2016 with an export of approximately 15 billion dollars. The negative effect of oil prices on our exports has started to diminish, and we hope this will continue. In order to reach our 2023 target of 50 billion dollars in exports, we need to exceed these figures. Our chemical exportsWhen we look at the export prices per kilogram in dollar basis; 1,42 in dye; 2,2 in plastic products; 3,74 in cosmetics; We see that while it is 4,8 dollars in rubber, it increases to 15,3 dollars in medicine. Our goal is to produce added value above Turkey's average. Although chemistry varies on the basis of sub-sectors, it appears to be a highly import-dependent sector, such as 80 percent, in general. By producing high value-added products with R&D investments, we can eliminate this disadvantage and increase our exports to the figures we aim for”.
8th Chemical Industry Development CouncilAnkara Chamber of Commerce (ATO), Chairman of the Board of Directors Gürsel Baran, who attended the . Gürsel Baran said, “We need to act together and a new common mind in order for the chemical industry, which has a strategic importance, to move forward. As ATO, we are ready for all sectoral collaborations that will contribute to the development of both Ankara and Turkey.”
TR Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology Undersecretary Prof. Dr. Ersan Aslan; “It is very important for us to hold this meeting at a time when we are experiencing the terrorist attacks on July 15 and in which we lost 44 martyrs. Celebrating the Chemistry Industry Platform. We will closely follow the results of the meeting where we will talk about what to do in order to realize the export target of 50 billion dollars of the chemical industry and we will work to solve the problems. To reach the welfare society We need R&D there is. The number of R&D centers in Turkey has reached 312. Our goal is to increase this number to 2017 in 500. The ratio of investments made in R&D to GNP in our country was $2015 in 1,06. When we look at the chemical industry, we see that the R&D expenditure is 3 dollars. In other words, chemistry spends on R&D three times the average of Turkey. I believe that these investments will definitely reflect on the level of technology and the product. It just takes time and focus. On the other hand, while there are approximately 25 thousand enterprises in the chemical sector, the number of R&D Centers is 25. This number needs to increase.
Chemistry is one of the sectors that can quickly enter the 4th Industrial Revolution.”
At the end of the speeches, one of the organizations that created the Chemistry Sector Platform BOSAD, İKMİB, Rubber Association, KİPLAS, Composite Manufacturers Association, TKSD Presidents and Managers of organizations such as TC Undersecretary of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology Prof. Dr. They gave a plaque to Ersan Aslan.
