Margarita Ibrahimoff (born October 26, 1956), professionally known Rita Wilson, is an American actress, singer, songwriter and producer. Her films include Volunteers (1985), Insomnia in Seattle (1993), Now and Then (1995), Jingle All the Way (1996), Our Story (1999), Runaway Bride (1999), Complex (2009), and Larry Crowne (2011), and appeared in the television series The Good Wife and Girls. Wilson performed on Broadway and My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002). As a singer / songwriter, Wilson released the albums AM / FM, Rita Wilson, Bigger Picture and Halfway to Home. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in March 2019.
Actor Tom Hanks became a Greek citizen with his wife, actress Rita Wilson. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Tom Hanks and his wife Reta Wilson on the island of Antiparos in the Aegean, giving his double passports and citizenship documents.

Rita Wilson was born and raised in Hollywood, California as Margarita Ibrahimoff. His mother, Dorothea Tzigkou, grew up in Sotirë near Dropull i Sipërm in Albania, on the border with Greece. His father, Hasan Khalilov Ibrahimoff (1920-2009), was a Bulgarian Muslim (born Pomak) in Oraio (Breshtene), Greece, near the Bulgarian border. His father's family moved to Bulgaria as a child. Moved from Bulgaria to the USA in 1949. Upon his marriage he converted from Islam to Orthodox Christianity and changed his name to Allan Wilson in 1960, choosing his name after a local street. Wilson grew up in the Greek Orthodox faith. In Bulgarian, joining, “Turkish Russian, Polish, Greek, Italian can speak a little, a little, according to his father French Wilson's husband” Tom Hanks said he modeled his portrayal of the character Viktor, Navorski Father-in-law in the movie Terminal.
Film, television, theater
Wilson's career began with his guest appearance in the Brady Bunch in the 1972 film Greg's Triangle, where he played Pat Conway, one of the candidates working against Marcia for the head cheerleader. She also appeared twice on M * A * S * H in 1982 as Nurse Lacey, as well as the Company of the Three Sitcoms and Bosom Buddies, played by her future husband Tom Hanks, and Hester Rose Crane on Frasier Crane as her deceased mother Frasier. It's featured in numerous movies, including Volunteers, Barbarians at the Door, Fridge Bonfire, Mixed Nuts, Sleepless Seattle, Now and Then, Thing You Do That! The Jingle All The Way, The Runaway Bride, The Invisible Child, The Story of Us, Raise Your Voice, O Complex, and Larry Crowne.
On television, he played the wife of astronaut Frank Borman, Susan Borman, from Earth to Moon in the HBO miniseries. Frasier has appeared in many series such as Curb Your Enthusiasm, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, The Organs of Evidence and played repeated roles in Good Spouses and Girls.
She had helped actress-playwright Nia Vardalos get the movie deal for My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which became the highest-grossing independent film of all time, and for which she served as a producer. While developing the film, Wilson produced two-stage productions of the game. The sequel to Big Big Greek Wedding 2, in which Wilson co-produced and played a supporting role, was released in 2016.
Wilson's own Greek heritage was honored in 2016 when the Greek Postal Service ELTA commemorated him with the other five on a stamp. The other four depicted on the stamps were filmmaker Costa-Gavras, engineer and entrepreneur Peter Diamandis, journalist George Stephanopoulos, and billionaire businessman John Catsimatidis. In 2008, Wilson shot the movie Mamma Mia! , and its sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
In 2006, Wilson made his Broadway debut and played the role of Roxie Hart in the Chicago revival. In 2015, he returned to Broadway playing his wife, Brenda, in Larry David's original play Fish in the Dark. Off Broadway, he has played various roles in Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron's play Love, Loss and What I Wore. Geffen reprized his roles in the Los Angeles production at Playhouse. Also in Geffen, Wilson starred in Daniel Margulies' Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Dinner With Friends, directed by Tony Award winner Dan Sullivan. Wilson originated the role of “Mama” in the world premiere of Lisa Loomer's play, Wistful, at the Taper Forum, also in Los Angeles.
Music
Wilson's long-standing interest in singing led him to record his first solo album, AM / FM, which was released on the Decca Records label on May 8, 2012. The album featured classics of the 1960s / 70s and included a cover of "Wichita Lineman," which she co-produced with the song's author-composer Jimmy Webb. He also made a duet "All I Have To Do Is Dream" with ex-Soundgarden and Audioslave musician Chris Cornell. Additional harmonies from the album come from Faith Hill, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill and Patti Scialfa. (Also with Ron Aniello, "Come See About" also pulled).
On December 4, 2014, he performed for President Obama and Michelle Obama at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Washington DC and served as co-host of the event.
In 2016, Wilson began writing his own songs with the help of co-writer Grammy nominee Black Dioguardi. The first song he wrote and sang is "Grateful" with Dioguardi and Jason Reeves (later the self-titled album Rita Wilson). Earlier, Wilson wrote "Bad Things" for the Scott Eastwood movie Dawn Patrol, starring opposite Matt Nathanson in 2014.
His second album, Rita Wilson, was released the same year. Wilson co-author Dan Wilson, Black DioGuardi, Jason Reeves, Darrell Brown, Sugarland's Kristian Bush, Richard Marx, Lauren Christy, Mikal Blue, Nathan Chapman, Jason Wade, Stephanie Chapman, Ron Aniello, Jillian Jacqueline, Jessi Alexander, JR Randall, Yugomir Lonich, Blair Daly, and Kelly Archer. The song "Strong Tonight" was performed by Connie Britton at the opening of the episode on ABC television show Nashville.
The New York Times said: “Mrs. Wilson caught a voice in her voice that conveyed the longing behind the front of joy and a potential heart attack.
He opened a tour with Chicago to support the release of Rita Wilson; He said he was a lifelong fan of the group. “I'm excited to open up to Chicago, a band that makes up most of my music life. Wilson released his fourth album, Halfway to Home, on March 29, 2019, and released the song "Throw Me a Party", inspired by breast cancer survival. Other songs were created in a writing workshop that partnered with Mozella, Mitch Allan (Demi Lovato), Black DioGuardi (Pink), Liz Rose, and Krisian Bush. Halfway to Home was co-produced by Nathan Chapman, who worked regularly with Taylor Swift. “The Road to Home finds it draws from musical traditions (Southern California rock, classic Nashville country) that recreate the deep storytelling that was a sign for Wilson's growth.” The Rolling Stone.

While shooting in Australia in March 2020, Wilson signed a contract with Covid-19. While putting himself in quarantine and “go crazy”, he shot an Instagram video showing the Naughty by Nature song playing “Hip Hop Hooray”. The video went viral and reached Naughty by Nature's Vin Rock. The duo came together for a “Hip Hop Hooray” remix that benefited from the MusiCares COVID-19 Charity Fund.
In July 2020, Wilson appeared on Jimmie Allen's Bettie James, collaborating on the EP song “When It Is Over” with Tauren Wells and the Oak Ridge Boys.

Wilson is a contributing editor for Harper's Bazaar magazine, writing more than twenty-one articles. He also started and edited a section on the Huffington Post called Huff / Post50 that explored issues and issues related to people over the age of fifty. He has also written for Oprah Magazine O.
Personal life
Wilson married actor Tom Hanks in 1988. They have two sons named Chester and Truman. Wilson has two stepsons Colin and Elizabeth Hanks. Wilson has two grandchildren.
It is a member of the Greek Orthodox Church.
In April 2015, Wilson announced that he was diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. After a month-long hiatus, he returned to Larry David's Darkness in Fish Broadway show.
On March 12, 2020, Hanks announced through his Instagram profile that he had contracted double COVID-19 and there were minor signs when he was filming an upcoming movie Elvis (same as Colonel Tom Parker) with director Baz Luhrmann in Australia. Admitted to Gold Coast University Hospital. On March 27, Wilson and her husband returned to Los Angeles following their quarantine.

Wilson signed an open letter in 2015 with the ONE Campaign collected. The letter turned to Angela Merkel and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and urged them to focus on women as they serve as the head of the G7 in Germany and the AU in South Africa, respectively. The G7 and AU were expected to set priorities in development finance before the main UN summit, which will set new development goals for generations in September 2015.
Charity
Wilson and her husband, Tom Hanks, have been honorary co-chairs, with Steven Spielberg, who has specialized in raising money for women's cancers for over two decades, and Kate Capshaw of the Women's Cancer Research Fund (WCRF). In 2016, WCRF joined forces with Evelyn Lauder's Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Wilson contributes "True Hearts" at the Moffitt Cancer Center by donating jewelry made of pure silver and 14k gold.
Wilson stated that he inspired Rosie O'Donnell for her charity work specifically for cancer and children's charities. She and her husband have long supported Los Angeles' Shakespeare Center, back in 1989 when Wilson appeared as Celia in a production As You Want. The Simply Shakespeare event, held annually, raises funds to support unrestricted youth programs. Musicians who have garnered funds include Paul McCartney, Paul Simon, Jackson Browne, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Ben Harper, Reba McEntire and more.
In 2018, Wilson and Hanks were honored with the USC Shoah Foundation's 'longstanding commitment to support humanitarian causes and veterans' for their recognition Humanity award's Ambassadors. The couple also contributes to the AIDS Project Los Angeles, and many more charities.
Wilson and her husband also made significant contributions to helping people suffering from Mati Fire in Greece. This received him and Hanks an honorary citizenship offer in Greece from Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on 27 December 2019.
