Esen Ercan Alp is one of our values that make us proud in the international arena with his story from Diyarbakır to the consultancy of the US Department of Energy. By analyzing a 5000-year-old sculpture with an x-ray device, Alp broke new ground in this field, which buried the radiocarbon technique used since 1949 into history.

Who is Esen Ercan Alp?

Esen Ercan Alp, who was born in Diyarbakır in 1954, started to work as an assistant after graduating from Ankara Kurtuluş High School in 1975, graduating from the Department of Metallurgical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Middle East Technical University.

Alp made his way to Germany with the scholarship he won from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which was established in 1957 within the body of the United Nations and headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and completed his doctorate in the USA Southern Illinois University with Hamburg University. .

Our famous quantum physicist's areas of expertise include; There are X-ray physics and X-ray optics. He was awarded the Scientist of the Year Award by the University of Chicago in 1999 for his work on the "Advanced Photon Source", the most advanced X-ray source in the world.

Our scientist, who made his reputation known to the world with his studies;

  • at the US Department of Energy
  • At Synkotron centers in Japan, China, Germany, Canada and Jordan
  • consulting at institutions such as the NSF and NIH;
  • Turkish Accelerator Center (THM) International Scientific Advisory Committee Chairman

continues its duties. The Turkish Accelerator Center we are talking about is a project that has been carried out since 2000 under the leadership of Ankara University and with the support of the Ministry of Development. Within the scope of the project, studies are carried out on an electron accelerator with 40 million electron volts.

In Which Fields Is Quantum Physics Used?

Quantum physics that left its mark on the 21st century;

  • fiber optic communication lines
  • Devices with LED technology
  • modern medical devices
  • Smart devices such as mobile phones
  • GPS devices

It is used effectively in areas needed by the modern age, such as The new quantum technology is seen as a new revolution in the USA, European Union and China. Quantum cryptology, quantum computing and quantum computers are some of the elements that are shown as parts of this revolution. Turkey is among the "Quantum Informatics Team" initiated by the European Union. Although studies in our country are carried out academically and theoretically, this situation is promising for the future.

Esen Ercan Alp successfully continues his scientific studies at the Argonne National Laboratory, which he entered in 1984.
