Dear reader, Our Sterilization article series consists of three parts. Those who read the first part had general knowledge about the subject. We talked about applications made in historical processes and E group chemicals. In this article, I want to talk about sterilization.

Let's Talk About Sterilization At This Stage

Sterilization is a physical or chemical process applied for the purpose of cleaning any object or substance, all microorganisms it is associated with, from all forms of living things. Sterilization has a very important place in the developing world conditions. However, since there is no single ideal sterilization method to be applied for all substances, attention should be paid to the structure of the material to be sterilized.

Sterilization with Radiation

The concept of ionizing radiation is important in radiation sterilization processes. A sterile environment is obtained as a result of processes using Gamma Ray.
Gamma Rays; It is pure energy produced by the spontaneous decay of radioactive isotopes of Co-60. The ionized energy produced by gamma rays is the ideal solution for various densities of medical materials, drugs and foods with its high penetration feature.


Sir, Cobalt 60 and Radiation are not harmful? I seem to hear people saying. A quick note: Cobalt 60 used here has a half-life of 5.28 years, while Plutonium has a half-life of 24k years. Therefore, in gamma sterilization process, Cobalt is processed at low gray level and the fading time is kept short.

Dear reader, I would like to make a small addition here. The chronic disease, known as Cancer among the people, which emerged as a result of the effect of free radicals in the society, has become one of the most important social health problems in Turkey as well as all over the world in recent years. According to the data, it is predicted that the number of cancer cases, which is the second cause of death in the world, will increase rapidly until 2030 and will rank first. It is known that a total of 2010 million new cancer cases developed and 2012 million cancer-related deaths occurred in the world between 14.1-8.2. Among the causes of cancer, environmental and genetic causes are predicted. Environmental reasons include the subject of our article. The most important risk here is smoking, consumed foods, obesity, hormones, viruses, physical and chemical effects. Foods have a wide spectrum from those that have cancer-protective properties to those that cause cancer. Additives used in foods, our diet and what we eat trigger the formation of cancer.

In today's lifestyle, food additives have become a part of our diet. Especially through advertisements, this consumption has become widespread among the new generation. If you remember, a Pizza Chain was tried to be opened in our country, and as it could not be successful, the pizza consumption frenzy started with the cartoon series Ninja Turtles in 1991.

Anyway, while I remember, let me watch Ninja Turtles by opening that tube channel on the internet.
