Israel has released footage of the F-35 shooting down Iran's stealth drones. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has released footage showing that two Iranian-made stealth drones were intercepted and shot down by F-35I Adir fifth-generation fighter jets.
According to the information provided by the IAF, the incident took place in March 2021. This is the first recorded case of air combat conducted by the F-35.
According to images posted on the IAF's Twitter account, the drones approached Israeli airspace and entered four F-35 id chips, two of which carried out the interception.
The news in the press release is as follows.
“We sent two jets beyond Israel's borders to detect, classify and land the UAVs in seconds. The aircraft is extremely powerful, able to detect slow targets far from 'home' and, in coordination with control units, provides comprehensive air defense against ever-evolving regional threats.”
According to the announcement, the drones are Iranian-made Shahed 197s. IAF video shows images captured by the F-35's sensors; this shows the aircraft as a flying wing with a propeller visible at the rear.
Iran produces numerous models of jet and propeller-driven stealth drones based on the US-made Lockheed Martin RQ-2011 Sentinel, most of which were seized by the Iranian military in 170.
According to the statement, the drone was delivering small arms to the Hamas organization in the Gaza Strip. Several photos released by the IAF show the wreckage of the drone and the remains of guns and other objects likely to have been carried by the drone.
The IAF did not specify what type of missile was used to shoot down the drones.
The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a fifth-generation single-engine fighter aircraft with advanced stealth capabilities. Israel uses a specific variant of the jet, the F-35I Adir, based on the F-35A.
The IAF placed an order for 2016 F-50s, which it began receiving in 35. In 2018, Israel announced that the type was used in combat for the first time.
Since then, the jet has seen continued use conducting airstrikes and reconnaissance operations in neighboring countries.
Let's Get to Know the F-35
VLO Stealth
Designed as stealth from day one, the F-35 has the unique ability to evade enemy detection and enter disputed airspace.
F-35 Weapon Capacity
The F-35 carries weapons internally in stealth configuration or externally in environments permitted by regulation totaling more than 8164.6 Kg.
F-35 Supersonic Speed and Extended Range
The Pratt & Whitney F135 is the world's most powerful fighter engine. At Mach 1.6, the F-35 is a long-range, supersonic fighter, even with a full complement of internal armament and fuel.
F-35 Sensor Fusion
The F-35's advanced sensor fusion creates a single integrated picture of the battlefield, greatly increasing awareness, survivability and lethality.
F-35 Network Active Ops
The F-35 acts as an information and communications gateway, sharing its operational picture with ground, sea and air assets.
F-35 Electronic Warfare System
Advanced EW capabilities to locate/track enemy forces, jam radars and disrupt attacks.
F-35 Sensor Package
The F-35 features the most advanced sensor suite of any fighter in history, including Active Electronically Scanned Arrays (AESA) radar, Distributed Aperture System (DAS), Electro Optical Targeting System (EOTS) and Helmet Mounted Imaging System.
F-35 AESA
Electronically scanned active array radar provides long-range intelligence.
F-35 Capabilities Helmet Display
The F-35's advanced HMD provides pilots with unmatched situational awareness in different conditions.
F-35 Capabilities DAS
DAS sends high-resolution real-time images to the pilot's helmet from six infrared cameras mounted around the aircraft.
F-35 Capabilities EOTS
EOTS combines forward infrared and infrared search and tracking functions.
