BEIJING — Chinese President Xi Jinping pays a second visit to the northwest region, eight years after his 2014 visit to China's Xinjiang region. As part of the visit, he underlined the overarching goal of social stability and lasting security, and the important role of the region in realizing the One Belt, One Road Initiative, emphasizing the efforts made for the full and faithful implementation of the Chinese Communist Party's policies for the rule of Xinjiang in the new era.

Analysts said that Xi's visit to Xinjiang marked a new stage in China's determination of the Xinjiang region as the main location in its westward expansion, after achieving fundamental shifts from turmoil to stability. 

President Xi, who stayed in the Xinjiang region from Tuesday to Friday, visited many places in Urumqi. He also went to Shihezi and Turpan, inspecting the villages and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Establishments, and chatted with the local residents. During the visit, President Xi also called for making Xinjiang a harmonious, prosperous and culturally advanced region with healthy ecosystems and people living and working in satisfaction.
