Olkiluoto 3 is complete. Today, on Sunday, April 16, 2023, regular electricity production started after the test generation was completed. Olkiluoto will produce about 30% of the electricity currently used in Finland.
The amount of electricity produced by Europe's largest nuclear power plant unit is a great support for domestic and cleaner production. Energy will be produced by the central unit for at least the next 60 years.
More than 3 different nationalities were employed in the Olkiluoto 80 project. At its peak, 4.500 workers were working at the site. About 3.300 tests and more than 9.000 test reports were collected during the test production phase alone. The project had a great impact on the economy of the region, especially in the Satakunta region.
At the time the project was launched, around 60% of Finns supported nuclear power. At 83 percent, nuclear power is currently at a historic level of popularity.
The contractual end of the Olkiluoto 3 project will take place when the work in the final test production phase has been completed and TVO is in a position to properly decide on the acceptance of the plant unit and the start-up of the commercial operation. These elections will be held in the not-too-distant future.
A fixed price turnkey contract was used for the construction of the switchboard unit by the OL3 EPR switchboard supplier consortium. Until the warranty period of the switchboard unit expires, the member enterprises of the supplier consortium AREVA GmbH, AREVA NP SAS and Siemens AG are jointly and severally liable for all contractual obligations.
