Boron Superconducting Material was Produced with the Cooperation of BOREN and the Private Sector. As a result of the project supported by BOREN within the scope of the studies carried out to obtain high value-added products of boron, in which we have 73 percent of the world's reserves, a domestic technology company succeeded in producing boron superconducting material.
ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY MATERIALS
Superconductors are high-tech materials that can conduct electric current without loss. The electrical conductivity of a superconducting cable is 150 times higher than a copper cable of the same size, and because of this feature, superconductors play an important role in the construction of advanced technologies, power cables, MRI devices, Wind Generators over 10 MW, Magnetic Rail Trains and superconducting magnets.
HELIUM RESERVES ARE RUNNING IN THE WORLD
Especially in the last 10 years, the world's helium reserves have been decreasing, and accordingly, there has been a great price explosion. It is predicted that the world's helium reserves will be depleted up to 50 years. This would involve a very high cost and risk in the use of liquid helium in superconducting technology. In the last few years, the use of hydrogen, which is much cheaper as an alternative to liquid helium, has begun in the world, and as a result of the decomposition of water into elements, the use of hydrogen, which has unlimited accessibility in nature, is only possible with boron compounds.
BORON SUPERCONDUCTOR MARKET IS GROWING EVERY DAY
The global superconductor market is around 10 billion dollars and it is estimated that this figure will reach 20-50 billion dollars in 55 years. 95% of all superconducting magnets and devices used in today's technology are helium-based. However, considering the ongoing helium crisis and the consequent 10-fold increase in the price of liquid helium in the last 3,5 years and the difficulty in supply, it is certain that the needle will turn to cheap and environmentally friendly liquid hydrogen-cooled boron-based superconductors in the coming years.
TODAY, WE MANUFACTURE BORON SUPERCONDUCTOR MATERIALS THROUGH THE PRIVATE SECTOR
With the project supports given by BOREN, we carry out and support projects for the conversion and processing of boron into final products in our country. High purity elementary boron production, which is used in the production of boron superconductors, is also made in our country.
