Second Code of DNA Found

According to a study published in the journal Science, scientists from the University of Washington announced that they have found a second code hidden in the upper part of DNA. The genetic code, first deciphered in 1961, shows how cells make proteins. The second code contains information that instructs the cell how to control genes.

John Stamatoyannopoulos, who led the research, said: "We now know that in the basic assumption about reading the human genome, we're missing half the picture. "The new findings shed light on the incredibly powerful information storage mechanism of DNA," he said. This discovery may also shed light on the treatment of diseases.
