The hackers hit the major Portuguese media group. It crashed the company's websites. One of Portugal's leading media conglomerates said Thursday that a group calling itself "Lapsus$" had hacked the company's online services, hijacking some of its most popular websites and communicating with its subscribers.

Firms and software giants have been carrying out very serious studies for years in the face of this type of news that we often hear now. Every day we are faced with new news.

Grupo Impresa said the attack was aimed at disrupting the company's services and sending fake news messages to subscribers.

If we need to give an example;

“Last minute: President dismissed and charged with murder: new president of Lapsus$ Portugal.”

The company said in a statement that the hackers did not demand any payment.

The statement said the hackers gained access to the company's Amazon Web Services account and sent emails and text messages to subscribers.

The hackers gained access to some subscriber information, but Impresa said there was no evidence they had compromised subscribers' passwords or credit card information.

The statement said the attack took place in the early hours of January 2.

While the two main websites were still using their ephemeral sites on Thursday, the company regained control of its cloud services later that day.

The websites mentioned are those of the TV channels owned by the weekly newspaper Expresso and managed by its publisher, SIC.

The incident is being investigated by Portuguese police and the country's National Cyber Security Centre.
