They Recreated the Deadly Virus in a Lab Environment. Japanese scientist Yoshihiro Kawaoka, working at the Influenza Virus Research Center of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, succeeded in recreating the flu virus, which killed 2009 people worldwide in 500, in a laboratory environment.
By genetically rethinking the virus, called H1N1, in pre-epidemic conditions, the scientist identified areas where the virus escaped immunity and produced an antibiotic-resistant version of it.
The experiment, which a narrow scientific community is aware of, carries risks that could bring about the end of humanity. Because, if the virus escapes from the laboratory, as in previous examples, a serious epidemic danger may be encountered.
