Minister of Environment and Urbanization, Erdogan Bayraktar, announced that efforts are being made to increase the recycling habit in Turkey.

Minister Bayraktar said that for this purpose, incentives will be introduced to ensure the recycling of batteries, plastic and glass bottles, and a new system will be established with the participation of Turkish and foreign companies through the foundations and associations they work with. In his statement, Erdoğan Bayraktar noted that recycling vending machines will be established, starting from the densely populated areas, and that the machines will pay for the batteries and bottles thrown into these vending machines. Adding that the return amounts have not been determined yet, Minister Bayraktar noted that this way, citizens will be encouraged to separate the garbage. There are more than 100.000 in the world The first patent application for vending machines called reverse vending machines was made in the USA in 1920, while the first vending machine in this field was produced in Sweden in the late 1950s. There are currently more than 100.000 reverse vending machines in many countries, mostly in the USA and Europe.

In China and the United Arab Emirates, these machines were installed for the first time last year. While the vast majority of these machines function for battery and bottle recycling, in recent years, models that pay for LED bulbs and old cell phones have also been put into operation. Country and city governments, on the other hand, are trying to increase the installation of these machines, especially in shopping centers and large stores, as they encourage recycling and save on carbon dioxide emissions from the collection of these products.
