They Will Generate Electricity From Olive Wastes

They Will Generate Electricity From Olive Waste. Hidamet Asa, Chairman of the Board of Marmarabirlik, stated that they plan to produce 3 million kilowatt-hours of electrical energy annually from olive waste with a 2 million lira project.

Pointing out that production-based economic growth is based on research and development activities, Asa said, "As a country, we have to invest in R&D studies in order to gain competitive power in the global economy."

Emphasizing that as Marmarabirlik, they have accelerated their R&D studies since 2010 and developed projects in every field from product range to olive wastes and treatment plants, Asa said:

“In this context, our unit has developed a project to generate electrical energy from olive wastes, which is a first in Turkey, and to evaporate the waste water from the heat generated and to treat the brine water. The energy production project from olive waste, created by our R&D unit with a budget of 3 million lira, was approved by TUBITAK last year. According to this project, the assembly of the electric power generation pilot plant will start at the Marmarabirlik Integrated Facilities in Bursa, by September at the latest. We plan to start trial production at the beginning of December. We will give the first electrical energy to our facilities. 500 million kilowatt-hours of electricity will be produced annually from the power plant with a capacity of 2 kg/hour.”

Noting that there is another important pillar of the project, Asa said, “Waste heat will be generated while generating electricity. With this heat, olive black water will be evaporated and disposed of. Thus, we will have eliminated the operating cost of 150 thousand dollars, which we pay every year for the disposal of olive black water. Again, within the scope of treatability studies, we will give the waste heat and brine water and operating waste water clean to the nature.”
